To be a traveller-photographer is to accept the sometimes intrusive nature of the tourist’s gaze: the surprise of stepping into a daily life that is not my own, capturing only fragments of it.

These two worlds — the traveller and the local — may confront each other on occasion, but they also rely on one another: one brings curiosity and attention, the other offers presence and truth. The photograph emerges where their worlds briefly meet.
